Definition of docent

1: a college or university teacher or lecturer

2: a person who leads guided tours especially through a museum or art gallery

Hello Sartori Community! Are you interested in facilitating an environment that helps children ignite their imaginations and explore their creativity? Consider being an ART DOCENT in your child(ren’s) classroom(s)! As a classroom art docent you do not need to have any formal art training, but having an open-mind and championing ALL STUDENTS’ efforts, process, and imaginations will go a long way!

In order to get Sartori’s art docent program up and running we need to have volunteers in EVERY classroom. If you have already expressed an interest in volunteering in one classroom, but are open to volunteering in an additional classroom that has a need, please mention this. This opportunity is open to ANY adult family member—please spread the word to family members who may not receive Seesaw messages. Additionally, having multiple art docents per class is very helpful as then there is more support for prep and projects on project days and if someone cannot make it for any reason (illness, etc.) the program can still run.

If you have expressed an interest to your student’s teacher, but have not emailed the school-wide Art Docent, Andrea Netherwood directly expressing your interest, please do so as some teachers have been waiting to receive more names before submitting art docent names for their class.

Email: artdocent@sartorielementarypta.org

If you (or someone in your family) are interested in this opportunity, please respond as soon as you are able. You also must pass a background check BEFORE you can participate as a school volunteer. If you plan to volunteer at Sartori in any capacity, submit your background check application promptly.

A few notes about the art program: you will not be responsible for coming up with art project ideas. Instead, Andrea will come up with project ideas and you (and the other docents) and the classroom teacher will facilitate each project. There will also be a training for those who can attend TBA (attending is highly recommended) and notes available for those who cannot. Once we have docents in every classroom, Andrea will email everyone with next steps. Until then, hang tight! The commitment is minimal (a couple to a few hours total per season), but your contribution will have a positive impact on our Sartori Creators.
